For the past four to five years we are experiencing that when it rains or there is heavy weather our telephone and Adsl lines go down. This implies that nearly every time we do not have Telkom services over Christmas. Last year it took 3 months and an additional R300 to get a service (Telkom says there was nothing wrong with non-working lines). Some times you have to unplug the telephone because it is "ringing" all the time/lines are crossed or you speak to the neighbor when you want to dial. Every time the technicians tell us that the equipment at the distribution boxes are outdated. Every time our line was given to another and then after numerous complaints to the technicians it is switched back. There is no one to complain to and make these facts visible except to the technicians, there is no feedback on the progress, etc. Every e-mail address supplied by Telkom is returned as unknown. Telkom should remunerate each subscriber for the additional costs to get communications services when their lines go down.
