Now they won't stop my debit orde

So... still on my previous report... of no converage since June/July and struggling to cancel contract bla bla bla.
Contract was finally cancelled on 3 December and I have it on email... so when I ask the person if they will stop my debit order... his reply was:
"I cannot promise that"

WHAT *&&%^ COMPANY CANCELS A CONTRACT BUT DOESNT THEN STOP THE DEBIT ORDER???
