Unacceptable request for personal information

My cellphones and 3G is with Vodacom. Just lately everytime I send them an email requesting information / confirmation of a received email/sms. They then send an email advising that before a consultant can attend to my query they require the following information:
1) ID Number
2) Name of bank and bank account number
3) Postal address

This is completely unacceptable. Firstly why do the require this information to answer a simple query especially my banking details? Secondly they already have this information. Thirdly they being a communications company should know that it is not wise to send banking details via email / sms. This unacceptable practice needs to cease.
