MTN refuses to uphold cellphone warranty

MTN has confirmed that my blackberry is under warranty after checking this on their system, They advised that they will only book the phone in for repairs / replacement if I produce my original proof of purchase. I was never advised to keep this as previously MTN had a record on their system and still do however are refusing to uphold the warranty if I do not produce this. This absurd as they already have my details and they advised that my phone is under warranty.
