Shockingly poor service from vodacom

I had a contract with Vodacom for more than three years. My phone died so I was trying to get some info from Vodacom as to how I can get a new phone on contract but not lose my old number. Vodacom in gateway told me that I cant do anything as my contract is due for upgrade in April 2014. I called Vodacom customer care and the lady who answered my call told me I should cancel my contract prematurely and pay the necessary fees and I will be able to get a new contract. I did so and two days later I tried to purchase a new phone and to my surprise I was told I could not as I have to wait for six months until I can do anything with that number, I reported the problem to Vodacom on Wednesday 20 November and have not received any feedback or help from them ONE WEEK LATER!! I call them every other day but I never get an answer but instead I need to explain my story to a new person every time! Because of the info I received from THEM I now find myself at a worse position than I was before.
I think it is unacceptable that I was told incorrect/incomplete information and that more than 72 hours later I am still waiting for someone to call me. I guess its time I move to another service provide
