HTV 8x no accessories in South Africa

I bought my friend an HTC 8x from MTN in Durban (Pavillion). She wanted a cover, and the sales lady at MTN said they didn't have one, but we could find one at one of the other cellphone shops. We went to every cell phone shop in the Pavillion, then at Gateway, then at Midlands Mall in Peitermaristzberg. We also tried some dodgy street vendors, but they only had generic cases that didn't fit properly. I then contacted HTC support, who's first reply was to try cell phone shops, and the 2nd reply was to order from overseas!

If no one is supporting the HTC 8x, why is it being sold in South Africa?
