Bad cancellation policy

My husband an I have been MTN customers over a very long period of time. We have 2 contracts and had taken out 2 data contracts as well. We planned on keeping the data contract but over the past few months the speed has dropped significantly. Due to the slower speed we decided to cancel the contract once it was over. We made enquiries from MTN service stores and through their call centre on numerous occasions about cancelling the contract and were always told the same thing. That it could only be done when the contract is over. When we called the call center a week before the contract expired we were told that it could be cancelled but we would have to pay a cancellation fee so we decided to wait.

The day after the contract expired we called the call center only to find out we have to give a months notice. If that was the case then MTN should have allowed us to cancel the contract from the 23rd month. This appears to be a scheme to make more money. There appears to be no concern about customer service at all!!! Over the course of our numerous enquiries not once were we informed of the policy of a months notice.
