Vodacom
Non-delivery on expectations created

Telecommunications

On Thu 14 Nov Vodacom's upgrade centre phoned me to offer the iPhone 5S a day before launch (Fri 15 Nov). The promise was that delivery would start on Mo 18 Nov and that I would receive my handset "within 2-3 working days". At the end of day 3 (We 20 Nov) still nothing. Response from the upgrade call centre: "Sorry, we are out of stock, give it another few days."

My question is: Why did Vodacom phone me the day BEFORE launch and create expectations without any intention of delivering on time? If they were really serious they would have held back some of the stock that appeared in outlets on 15 Nov to be able to deliver on the upgrade/order promises they made the day before the actual launch - they had the numbers at cob on 14 Nov. Why do you bother to do telephone pre-sales and not deliver?

If I've known that this would happen, I would have declined the telephonic offer and would have opted to queue at one of the outlets the next day. Now it's too late because all the suppliers are out of stock and I'm worse off than the people who did not pre-register on the Vodacom website.

Let's hope that this gets to someone who actually cares about customer service...
