Wrong Sim Size/Broken Phone

Got a new phone on a new contract yesterday.
Phoned to activate the sim.
Was told to switch phone off and remove the sim. The sim size is wrong and the sim slipped all the way into the sim area - when I tried to remove the sim it lifted and then broke off some of the pins in the phone.
Logged a call with helpdesk - was told I would be contacted within 24 hours - this has not happened.
I urgently need feedback on this as I can't use the phone and I am assuming that I will start getting billed already as the sim would/should have been activated by now.
Tried to calling helpdesk now again and the folks on the other side can't hear me - yet if I phone any other number they can hear me clearly.
HELP I NEED A WORKING PHONE AND SIM!!!
