Vodacom
Consumar act violation & poor marketing strategy?

Telecommunications

After receiving a phone call from one of your sales/promotions offices about one 1/2 weeks ago, where I was told the good news that Vodacom was "treating all good customers" with a new Nokia Asha plus some store voucher, I received the "gift" phone from Vodacom via courier services.
This is an extreme poor marketing strategy from Vodacom and in fact extremely frustrating experience to me. Without considering my client rating, what is my usage per month, what type of phone I may need, Vodacom activated a new contract for this cheap quality phone without my consent and deducted the first amount from my bank account. The quality of the "gift" phone is so bad that a 10 year old would not want it as a gift even with air time! Furthermore, had Vodacom sales division done their homework, they would find that I do not need another account and therefore I would not authorise any deductions!
Calling several Vodacom numbers is another frustrating experience. More an insult than a "gift", is what I received, plus all the frustration of trying to get through to the right division / person. Eventually someone assisted in forwarding the cancellation request. What a waste of time!
