Suspicious Numbers

I got a call from an 031 940 9859 number this morning asking if I wanted to add some security feature to my phone where I would have to pay a monthly fee of R30. Without giving them any consent, they immediately wanted to confirm my birth date and ID so that they could get me registered. I immediately started to think it was a when the lady I spoke to said that she would put me through to her manager to confirm my ID number. I then put down the phone and was called back on an 031 830 7943 which I found very suspicious. Are these legit Vodacom numbers? And if so, why am I getting unwanted calls like this. If I was interested, I would much rather go into a store to register for any fancy features. I do not feel comfortable giving my details over the phone.
