About 2 years ago, I contacted Vodacom Call Centre to confirm whether there was any money outstanding on my contract, unfortunately due to this being so long ago, I cannot remember who I spoke to. They confirmed that I owed Vodacom no money and there were no arrears on my name. I did this purposefully because I wanted to take out a new contract with Vodacom, but did not want to do so with having an outstanding account with them.
I asked repeatedly for them to confirm that I had 0 money owing to Vodacom on my name, which this person did. Now 2 years down the line I receive an e-mail from the debt collectors saying that I owe Vodacom money, upon which I contacted the call centre. The debt department confirmed that there is money outstanding on my old contract to which I responded that when I telephoned them to actually make payment, I was told that 0 money was outstanding on the account. Now you want me to pay for this? This isn't acceptable, first my account is not in arrears and 2 years down the line it is? How can you have staff dealing with customers and giving them wrong information like this? Now because of that I'm held accountable for an account I was told wasn't outstanding?
