Sony Mobile fragrantly prejudices consumers

Telecommunications

I bought a new Sony Xperia C at Sony Vodaworld, Midrand on Saturday 25 October 2013. The phone was defective as it the battery overheated during use. Secondly when I added contacts to my contact lists and subsequently modified the contacts, the contacts would be randomized.

I took the phone back to Sony Vodaworld on Tuesday 29 October 2013. I requested a refund for my phone and my mom's which I am entitled to under the Consumer Protection Act in South Africa. The store clerk took the phones back but said that Sony would only pay after the phones were assessed even though I am entitled to a direct refund.

On 31 October 2013, my parents went to the store and queried the matter with the store manager, Malcolm Mhandu. He told my parents that he would not give me the general managers contact details and that they must go find the managers details elsewhere as its not his problem. The store manager eventually contacted my parents and he told them that Sony will only refund us if the phones are faulty else we must take the phones back and Sony would not be interested in investigating any further. Sony couldn't care about their consumers or the South African law that protects consumers
