Vodacom
Vodacom profile now a data collection programme

Telecommunications

Vodacom online has changed to a new profile which links you to all their other sites. Catch #1: there's no opt-out and you have to give your ID and email address to register. So I click on "Register later" so I can log in and delete my profile, because if they want those details, they can phone RICA - I am certainly not supplying them for the benefit of Vodacom's marketing department and I'd never have registered to start with had they required them then. Catch #2: "Register later" actually locks you out of your account. 'No problem, I'll give some fake details just to log in and delete the account.' But when you click on "I don't have an email" it still gives the "You have not supplied your email" error message. (Don't they debug their code???)

So I phone the call centre. After 2 minutes of explanation I get: "So you want to check your airtime? " I couldn't think of an adequate response, so I asked for a supervisor. She refused to escalate my call without my ID and email, which is exactly the problem. I won't repeat what I said to her before I hung up. Bottom line: I am NOT opting in to Vodacom's enforced personal data collection programme and I want my profile deleted.
