Huge internet bill!!!

I have a internet stick with autopage on MTN and I have capped the account. Every month I went over I would receive an sms notifying me that my capped had been reached. This month my bill was R1300 where it should be capped at R400 max. I was never notified that my cap had been reached so continued to use the internet. I phoned the customer care and was told that I am liable for any money because it is not there problem if the cap service does not work. It states in the contract that I liable whether it works or not. I find it ridiculous that I must pay for there system failing and me therefore only being notified of my account status when it's too late. I fully agree that I am liable if I knowingly go over my my cap but, if I don't know I can't limit my usage.
