Sim not activated on Samsung S4

I have received my Samsung S4 on Thursday 19/09/2013 through FNB & MTN, tried to activate my sim card since Friday 20/09/2013 keep getting a response that the sim is faulty. It has been almost a week and I still cannot get the sim and my contract activated. I am frustrated and want to send the cellphone back to MTN.The service is poor and the call centre agents cannot give me any answers regarding the activation.
