Updating Android operating system on Galaxy

I called the call center since my tab is still running version 3.2 of the operating software. The Android versions are already running at 5, I just wanted to update to at least version 4. They recon I can only do it by taking the device into the repair center, the rest of the world - including MTN via posts I have seen online - allow you to download it via the web. Maybe they are the way to go.
