Shocking business practice

Telecommunications

I took out a 24 month contract for the purchase of a laptop and 1g mthly data. 3 mths prior to the expiry of the contract, I enquired at MTN Century City (CC) whether I needed to give notice and I was told it was not necessary. However, two months after the expiry of the contract, my debit orders were still going off and I again went to enquire at MTN CC. I was told that the contract in fact does not terminate and runs infinitely unless I give 30 days' written notice to terminate. How can a prescribed 24 month contract to purchase a laptop run infinitely?!?! How can any company of good business practice allow the extension of a prescribed contract to continue without notifying its client? I have paid for the laptop and fulfilled the contract, are MTN going to charge me infinitely for an item I have paid for. I took up issue with Taufeeq at MTN CC, who was understanding and helpful and tried to negotiate a refund on my behalf, but it was declined by his management - another indication of the arrogance of MTN and carelessness toward a client whom has been a very loyal customer for >12 years, having had 4 accounts at once with a monthly spend of >R1, 200 & just renewed a 24mth cont
