PSD CALLS HIGH CHARGES SHOCK

I have 2 mobile contract numbers with MTN for 3 months now one for myself and one for my wife and every month the billing has been what I have expected. Now suddenly today on the unbilled usage for my wife's number under PSD CALLS I'm being charged R2560.02 for 1.8GB of data which works out to R1.40 per MB used. On my number I have been hit R193.70 for 498MB or data which works out to R0.38 per MB!!! How do they calculate this and account for the huge discrepancy in data charges between numbers? Furthermore there is no alerting via text message to say you have reached your limit and will be charged at a particular rate so you can make informed decisions about you usage or pick up any usage issues? They will just gladly let you run up a bill and get into debt! Also there is no way of putting a cut off so your data usage stops when you reach your contract limit. I was on Vodacom before and never had this issue.
