Efusal to fix contract phone without me paying

I own a contract phone it malfuncfionz i took it for repairs and i was told i will have to pay R1000 for this phone that costs 900. I feel i am being mistreated cause the phone is still under contract according to my understanding the service provider should fix it with no charge to me
