I had a 2 year contract with Vodacom which came to an end in 2012. I decided to cancel the contract and was re-assured that the contract would no longer continue. My number was even changed to prepaid and to this day, it is still identified as pre-paid when i call Vodacom's customer care consultants. What I fail to understand, is that I was further billed an amount of R390 after the contract had ended. This i found out when doing an application for finance on a new car. The amount was handed over to MBC and has ESCALATED to R562! All of this was one without my knowledge. When I applied for the contract I filled in my work telephone numbers, which have not changed. Why couldn't I have been notified of this amount before my credit record was tarnished? This is TOTALLY unacceptable. Furthermore, I called MBC Inc to find out what this amount was for. I was told that "it is because you didn't specify in writing that you wanted to cancel the contract" (bearing in mind that my number is pre-paid and Vodacom is aware of this). This is what I was told by a Tebogo Maponya from MBC Inc. When I called today to follow up, nobody knew who he was!! i really feel and would like clarity.
