Pick up your phone and Faulty Sim

Been at MTN to do a sim swop.
They were offline so i got a number to phone them to check when they come online but they dont answer their calls. (083 222 7424)
Called their help desk 808 and they also can get hold of them.

Then why must i pay for a new sim card if my sim card is faulty?
