More expensive to get out of a contract

L called to terminate my contract with them and was told to pay more than the remainder of the payments i have to make till the end of the contract. i asked why and the consultant said that they calulate the value of the device and devide it with the contract period and get the remainder of the value which l could not understand at all. i believe that since i have been paying for the device for more than l year now it should have depreciated and still if l am to settle then i have to pay at least the amount less than or equal to the outstanding payments l have.
