Fictitious 7 day swop out lie

I picked up a new Samsung Galaxy S4 on friday, 28 June. The sales consultant, Herman, informed me that there is a 7 day swop out policy in case anything goes wrong with the device.
The device subsequently restarted itself 3 times over the weekend when trying to open two different apps.
I called Herman yesterday, Monday 1st July informing him and he advised that I could come in and swop the device. He checked and confirmed that he had another black device in stock. Herman also advised that I need to bring the box and all accessories with the device when I swop it out.
This morning I went in to swop the device and Herman had changed his tune, told me that I now need to take the device to voda care to check it.
Herman denied saying that I could come in and swop the device.
Firstly, why would Herman have confirmed that there is another replacement unit in stock?
Secondly, why would Herman tell me to bring the device in to the store if he would merely tell me to take it to voda care? Surely he would tell me to take it to voda care directly.

This is SHOCKING service and I'm sure in contravention of the CPA 7 day out of box swop out policy!
