Vodacom
Cheated by upgrading to early

Telecommunications

I upgraded my contract to what at the time was a new Nokia on my Talk 500 contract. The handset lasted all but a year. I took the phone to a Vodashop where I was told that they couldn't exchange the unit and could only send it in for repairs, but that those specific units had been given a lot of trouble. The consultant explained that I have the option of an early upgrade on my contract due to my high average monthly spend. I was also told that with my spend I should be able to change my phone every year. This turned out to be a lie. Unknowingly, I upgraded to the Samsung SII which has given me great service for over 2 years now. Now that I would be due for a normal cycle upgrade I'm being told that I can only upgrade or change the phone in May 2014! What I wasn't told at the beginning was that the previous contract period needed to run out before the new period started. This means I would have to have my current SII for 3 years! I'm also being charged a handset fee for this time period... In short Vodacom is charging me R800 per month PLUS the R300 handset charge... Over 12 months that is over R13000 that Vodacom is getting out of me for providing NOTHING but airtime.
