False advertising and prolonged service time

On Sunday the 26th I received great service to upgrade my cellphone contract. I upgraded to a Sony phone, with the assurance that this phone has not been cause for any complaints. On Wednesday the 29th I took the phone back to the shop because the battery only lasted me to lunch time, with the most conservative display settings and very little phone, browser, chat, game, application or music use. Service was good again, and I was promised a 48 hour turnaround time. My work depends on Instant Messaging. BIS of my previous phone has been cancelled in the upgrade, leaving me unable to perform my duties.
On Tuesday the 4th of June, 6 days after handing in the phone, the phone was not there and no explanation but a promised call on Thursday which I did not receive either.
I have read up more on the phone and learnt that A LOT of people are complaining of its battery life. I would like to change my upgrade to another phone.
In summary:
A promised 48 hours has left me 8 days and waiting for my phone.
False advice on a phone has left me asking for a different phone/contract, is this possible?
