Vodacom
Downgrade cost R541.50, less than R61.40 x8 months

Telecommunications

Vodacom wants to charge me R541.50 to downgrade form a BlackBerry Talk 500 S package to a Talk 350 S, which they claim to be for the the "Handset / Migration Fee (Incl. VAT)".

I looked at my contract and my contract expires on the 16th of February 2014, which is 7 and a half months from today. My contract states that the "24 Months Handset Instalment" fee is R61.40 per month. R61.40 x 8 = R491.20 before VAT. R70 with VAT a month, thus R560 with VAT.

The R491.20 is less than R541.50. With VAT the R541.50 is R18.50 less than R560. If I downgrade, I will still be charged for 6 months for the "24 Months Handset Instalment" fee.

Thus I will be charged R541.50 for the "Handset / Migration Fee (Incl. VAT)", plus R560 for the "24 Months Handset Instalment" fee. Meaning I will pay R1101.50 for the phone where it was actually just R560 with VAT.

So Vodacom are you charging me R541.50 for the 10 minutes it takes the call centre agent to fill in the documentation and then calling it "Handset / Migration Fee (Incl. VAT)?
