4 month old Phone liquid damaged

I took out a contract with MTN for my son as a Christmas gift, and he wanted the Samsung Pocket. after using it 4 months the phone died. He never took it to school nor have the phone left the house. he uses the phone most of the time in his room and the tv room and as an emergency phone in case we needed to get hold of him at home, it never goes to the bathroom nor kitchen.

I took it to Mtn service centre in Century City and after having it for 2 weeks they advised that I may collect it. I was informed that the phone is non repairable and was liquid/moisture damaged. I asked them how and where could that possibly happen. They say I must tell them. I said its not possible, they say how can they take my work for it as if I'm lying.

I have been with MTN from the start and currently have 3 contracts with them 4 including my wife's contact. I have never in my life encountered a liquid/moisture damaged handset in my home. How can I be blamed for something we had no control over as it sound like a manufacturing fault. The unit does get very warm at times and took forever to charge from day one.

I am extremely disappointed in how this was handled and the blame put on us, never again MTN
