Switching to nano sim card

I got a new iphone 5 on monday 13th may and it came with a nano sim card, i phoned vodacom to help me switch from my micro sim and they said it will be done. today 15th may i phoned the 082111 number and they told me a totally different story that it's not possible because it's a contract phone.. like what the is that even supposed to mean?? all i want is my old number with this nano card.. is that so hard? i cant even enjoy my new phone :(
