Discriminatory Pricing Practises

I have just contacted Vigin Active Sunningdale to enquire about joining fees after seeing that there is a R100 joining fee advertsied on their website. I was informed that as I am a Discovery member I will have to pay a R965 joining fee, as I receive a discount on my monthly fee. This is irrelevant, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act I have the right to equality in the consumer market and protection against discriminatory marketing practises. Furthermore suppliers are not permitted to prioritise any consumer groups over others when marketing, selling or distributing their goods and services.

This type of pricing structure is now illegal in South Africa. I have lodged a complaint with the National Consumer Commission.

Disappointed that Virgin Active is so underhanded.
