I cancelled my gym contract with Planet Fitness over a year ago, in mid-January 2013. They have nonetheless been debiting my bank account since then. I only became aware of this around June 2013. I emailed them several times and physically went into the Claremont branch to have them cancel and reverse the debit orders. Throughout this time they made empty promises claiming to have sent a request to their head office to cancel my contract and refund me. I have gone through the laborious process of compiling all the amounts I have been billed three times (although they surely have these figures) but they are yet to cancel the contract nor refund me. I was shocked a few months back when I was told that I was handed over to debt collectors because I had failed to honour a few of their payments. I do not need to honour any payments, I am no longer contracted to them. The last debit, of a ridiculous R 1, 620.00, went off yesterday, 29th Jan 2013, and upon inquiry, I am still met with the same nonsensical response, to compile all the amounts owed to me and that they will follow up with the head office. I am very much frustrated and fed up with this gym and its ineffective billing systems.
