Billed after contract cancellation

In March 2010 I signed a 3 year contract with the Rivonia branch of Planet Fitness. I paid R11596 up front for this contract with the promise that there will be no other charges for the 3 year period. Halfway through this contract I was handed over to debt collectors by them, because according to them I owed them in excess of R6000. It turned out they ignored the fact that I paid up front and was billing me per month. This was all done with no communication from planet fitness. To sort this out took about 2 weeks.

In January this year I got a message from them telling me my contract will be up in March, and I should cancel it in writing if I don't want it to continue. On 22 February 2013 I sent written cancellations to their head office and the Rivonia branch. I got acknowledgement from their head office that my contract will be terminated on 27 March 2013. On 14 June I was called by a debt collector stating I owe Planet Fitness money. Since then I have been trying to sort this out, because I don't owe them money. They just does not respond. I have left numerous messages for Garth Williams the manager, but no response.
