Putting a contract on someones name without

I really need some help.

I applied for a membership at the gym (Zone Fitness)

I paid the 100 joining fee and then the sales man called me to say i can not join because i have a bad name.

He then says can i use someone elses banking details. I said NO.

Now my husband, which was my boyfriend then, is getting letters and sms from lawyers to say he owes the gym money.

firstly he was not involved at all
gave no permission
did not sign any contract.

I have called emailed the gym

No response and help

Now he is getting a bad name for nothing!!
