Moving - No Zone Fitness but still expected to pay

I am moving due to my work relocating. Currently I have an upgraded membership which allows me to use any Zone Fitness gym. I requested that my contract please be cancelled because where I will be moving does not have a Zone Fitness. The closest gym will be over 40 km's away.
I would not have wanted to cancel my contract would it not be for these circumstances. Even due to these special circustances, I was still advised that I will have to pay 40% of the remaining period of my contract. I find this extremely un understanding and insensitive on their side.
I was not assisted in any way after many enquiries and follow ups. Instead I kept being referred from the head office to the gym, and back. Come month end and I was debited again, still unresolved.
