Planet Fitness
R750 to transfer account?! Daylight much?

Sports

My wife has been a Planet Fitness member for years now and has been paying her monthly membership without fail. About 2 years ago she changed jobs so for convenience she also joined another club so she was thinking of cancelling her membership with Planet Fitness as she's basically wasting her money. I then suggested that we ask Planet Fitness to just change the membership from her name to mine then I have the option of training there occasionally.

I was naive enough to think it would simply be a process of me providing my ID no. and relevant contact information so that they can change the information on the system to mine on my wife's authority but in order for them to do this I must apparently pay a R750 transfer fee? is this? Firstly there's not way in I will pay R750 for some clerk to do a 2 minute job i.e. change/update some information fields but they're now playing the "there's nothing else we can do" card. Luckily there is something else I can do... take my money elsewhere.By their insistence on a ridiculous once off R750 it means they're willing to risk losing R3600 a year in membership fees. Great business logic hey.
