I am on Discovery Health & have been a member or Planet Fitness via my discovery health care for over 7 years.

If you don't go at least twice a month, they make you reactivate your policy by paying R750 once off. I went into the Planet Fitness, sat down with Carlos, filled in the paperwork to sign up again via Planet Fitness. This was very clearly explained to the salesman Carlos. I had never been a member of planet fitness privately.

After signing up, I did not have the activation money to ACTIVATE the membership and left it. 2 months later after NO COMMUNICATION whatsoever from Planet Fitness, my account was debited with R1000.

I phoned Planet Fitness and asked why this money had been debited off my account as I hadn't payed the sign up fee & had not used my membership AT ALL.

The women explained that because I hadn't paid the activation fee, my contract was AUTOMATICALLY converted to a private membership. This is R500 a month. Discovery is R90 a month.

I don't have R800 for the cancellation fee at the moment as I'm paying R500 a month for gym where I should be paying R90. I feel Carlos was very quick to sign me up & NEVER mentioned this very important fact. I feel cheated.
