Makro
False Advertsing (Inflated price comparison)

Shops, Products, Services

On Monday 8 April 2013, Makro's website advertised a KARCHER 4.640 high pressure cleaner on promotion, "was R2299 now R2199" valid until 8 April. As I was unable to get to the store on the day, I quite happily expected to pay the normal retail price of R2299 when I returned on Saturday 13 April. To my horror, the item was on promotion again but this time it was advertised as "Was R3299, now R2999" valid from 9-18 April, which is a as the item was never R3299.By using inflated price comparisons, Makro is blatantly deceiving customers into believing they are getting a deal, when they actually aren't, thereby enticing the customer to make a purchase. If Makro advertised this product honestly, the magenta (promotion) ticket would have said, "was R2299 now R2999" vald from 9-18 April. Furthermore, how can an item increase by over 30% overnight?! Had I known this rediculous price increase was coming into effect, I would never have taken the time to travel to the store to make the purchase. It's scary to think how many other items are "on promotion" when in fact Makro is just using inflated price comparisons to mislead customers!

SERIOUSLY disgruntled,
Paul
