Refusal to accept damaged Puma shoe

Shops, Products, Services

I purchased a pair of red Puma Ferrari shoes on 27/09/2012 from Edgar's Active Cresta which retailed for R1000.
I hunted for this pair as I could not get my size at other stores. To my dismay less than 6 months later it is starting to tear on the seam. If you examine the shoe, you will not find a scratch, to say that is was caused by misuse. It is a genuine defect. I went to the store today and was told that the back of my slip does not say I can exchange or get a refund for the defect and it needed to tear within 30 days to get an exchange. Now I do not expect to pay R1000 for a premium brand at a reputable store like Edgar's and get ripped off like this. The attitude of " sorry you just have live with the defect" is totally unacceptable. I did not even want a refund, all I wanted was for Edgar's to acknowledge the defect and try and arrange a replacement, knowing that this range was currently being replaced. Now was that too much to ask? Is it reasonable to accept that a Puma shoe will tear under 6 months and that I must just let money go to waste? I want an immediate response to rectify my rather sour experience from totally unhelpful staff at Edgar's Active Cresta.
