I made a Lay bye with a particular shop in Johannesburg in September 2012. The agreement stated that laybyes are for 60 days. The item I had lay bye was 2000 and had alredy paid 1000. I am an old customer of theirs. For some reason i completely forgot about the laybye and when i remembered I immidiately went to the shop to tell them, and also ask if the jacket was still there as i wanted to pay the balance and take it. Fortunately, they still have the jacket but they have refused that I pay the balance as it has already experied. They are also refusing to atleast charge me a penalty and refund me the balance. If I still want it i shoudl pay the whole amount yet ive paid half of the price they are charging. Also, they did not remind me that my laybye was expiring and would take it back to the shelf. What are my right in this situation?

I have since lost the slip but one of the salesperson confirmed on 19.03.13 the transaction on the system.
