I drove 20 kilometres out of my way to get Blossom margarine bricks advertised for R9.99. Arrived there and found firstly the price was marked R11.99 and not R9.99 and secondly a lot of the bricks had expired in August 2012 and November 2012 and the balance were about to expire 13 March 2013. Some of the wrapping was damaged so we saw that the margarine had turned white around the edges so we checked a few more and they were exactly the same. I called for the Manager, Donovan, who informed me that it was his lst day in the shop. He did apologise and said that he will look into the matter. I then said it is very far for me to come again and asked him to substitute the margarine with the Shoprite brand, which was marked at R11.99, and he said that he didn't have the authority to do this. Considering the recent meat scandal which has rocked the market this is totally unacceptable and especially retailers like Shoprite should make sure that there expired goods are taken off the shelf timeously. Donovan went and checked that there was no other stock. Unless I get a satisfactory reply I will take this to the Consumer Council and the media. Really poor for Shoprite
