Damaged Goods and Non-existent Customer Service

On Saturday I wanted to buy a pack of unbleached stone ground brown flour. The only pack on the shelf was damaged. I was willing to buy it for half price. The manager first said that he cannot sell it to me as there may be something wrong with it. Then he went on to say that he'll get full price back from the supplier and therefore cannot let me pay half price for it.

Upon wanting to know why it was on the shelf he made the ultimate error in poor customer / staff relations. HE BLAMED HIS STAFF!!! In my book, this is something you NEVER do. I'm a manager myself and have the to accept accountability for my staff's actions. It is the manager's responsibility to sort our his staff's mistakes, in whichever appropriate manner, NOT to blame his staff to customers.

Francois Slabbert did not have the decency to say to me that he'll let me know when he receives more stock or that he'd make alternate arrangements. Had this been the case I would not now be thinking twice about visiting his store for anything. In fact, everybody should know how poor the service is as we want better service in future.
