Do I need to teach you the CPA???

I purchased a pair of bedside lamps in November last year. One of them broke due to poor workmanship and I took them back on Saturday 23 February to get a refund. First the ladies at the cashiers were quite rude when I explained the problem. They barely acknowledge my request and quietly chatted amongst themselves instead of being courteous. They looked rather confused with such a common task. After some fussing around, they eventually told me to take the same thing again, which I obviously refused because I didn't want to be stuck with a poor quality item all over again. Then they proceeded to tell me they would give me a gift voucher for Boardmans as it was over 30 days that I had purchased them. I again refused, having had to recite the CPA to the staff and reminding them that I was entitled to a full cash refund since it was under 6 months and I had a till slip. They didn't contest this at all and handed me the cash .. Does this mean that they were well aware of it and were just trying their luck?? How many other customers have had to be stuck with gift vouchers from your store because of this sort of thing? Shocking coming from a subsidiary of the Edcon group. I expected more
