1 year warranty means nothing to this store

I visited Pick n Pay yesterday at about 12 noon with my husband returning a pineware iron that was faulty. I got the iron as a housewarming gift in August 2013 (the iron was purchased in February 2013, I have the slip as well). Everywhere on the box and in the instructions leaflet it says that the iron has a 1 YEAR WARRANTY but when i spoke to the Manager Kobus, i had to hear that it has a 3 month exchange warranty and a 7 month repair warranty. No where on the box or instructions leaflet does it say that to me. My husband got a bit upset when the manager started having a bad attitude towards us by telling us "well there is nothing I can do about this". The more I am asking him to show me where it says what he just told me about the warranty, the more he tells me to go on their website, it is everywhere there. When we make any purchases at Pick n Pay, do we have to check the website for everything or is it on the packaging. we ended up leaving the store and giving the store a gift (the iron with slip and box) and my husband swore he will never do business with Pick n Pay Plattekloof again. It was the worst service I have ever experienced with them. Shame on you Kobus!!!
