Makro refuse to refund price diff. vs Pick & Pay

On Sun 27 Jan, six days ago i bought a PVR decoder from Makro PE for R1399, The unit was duly installed. Yesterday whilst in Pick & Pay Uitenhage, I see the identical product been sold for R999, R400 less than Makro. I phoned Makro to see whether they will refund me the difference, an was told by the Manager Jeff that if the box is unopened I can return it for a refund and buy from P&P. (Eish - customer retention) Told him the unit was installed, all they should do is give me a credit for the difference. Jeff then said it is not possible, as R999 is below his cost??? How can P&P then retail at this price and stil make profit??
This is my first negative experience with Makro, as usually their service is top class. Please see what can be done.
