Embarrassed cos of account

Today i decided to go shopping, given the permission from my husband to use his card. I picked out the items i wished to purchase and after putting the transaction through on his nwj its declined twice, so the lady at the shop calls and is told my credit availabel is R800, yet i settled the account on the 3rd of December for an amount of R 2 000 using the information that was on my last statement, i was placed in an embarrassing situation, i then had to pay cash for some of the items as these were christmas gifts, i'm now short in my budget for the month as i could not walk out the store not purchasing anything especially after the lady at the counter was helpful and this was no fault on her part. I want answers and i want to know how am i going to be compensated for this mess.
