I called the Whirlpool service centre about a possible fridge repair. Explained issue and asked for advise on whether repair was feasible or if I should buy new fridge. Was given no advise and told technician would call and give advise. When technician did call he was not willing to give advise on phone and insisted on coming to see fridge. He gets to my place and has a look at exactly what I explained and tells me PC board needs to be replaced. One call later and I am told it is R3300 to repair. Definitely not feasible and I will be buying a new fridge. Technician spent less than a minute looking at my fridge and now I must pay him R400. He didn't open it up or do a single thing. Yet no one was willing to offer advise on the phone. R400 for 1 minute??? Then he demands Cash payment. I tell him that I want an invoice with banking details and I will do EFT. But he says that is not the way they operate and he wants cash. NOONE TOLD US IT WAS CASH ONLY. He insists that Whirlpool know his terms yet they didn't bother to tell us. Overall a real unpleasant experience from Whirlpool. Nothing short of a rip off. Please be aware when you phone this company for a service callout.
