So now im giving away money for free

I purchased a Lexmark printer from makro on the 17/04/2012 and a 2 months ago it started acting up and not printing, coping or doing any of the functions it says it should, as I am a full time student and busy with exams I was only able to go into the store last week Saturday, I told the returns clerk what the problem is and was told that there is nothing the store could do I must call Lexmark myself and they will come out and fix it to correct the problem, after writing an exam today I call Lexmark and explain my problem and I am flat out told that there is nothing I can do because the 1 year guarantee is over and I cant find the email that proves I registered online and that they do not do repairs they replace... My problem is that I purchase a lot from makro and will say I always have peace of mind when shopping at makro but I paid 1000 rand for the printer I cannot afford to just be giving money away as I said I am a full time student... this is ridiculous!!!
