Poor customer service from store and head office

I purchased 2 inspirational frames for R30 each and I did not know the gift box was not secure because the cashier packed it, when i left the shop and took it out to have a look at again the lid just slipped off and the frame fell and broke. I immediately went back and very politely explained what happened and asked that they please exchange it for another one as it was really not my fault that the box was not secure. The manager on duty Leon van staden said he could not help as their returns policy was that once something is damaged out of the shop it can not be exchanged and i must purchase another one at a 50% discount because they carry the cost of damages. I did purchase another one, however, IT WAS NOT MY FAULT THAT THE PRODUCT WAS NOT PROPERLY SEALED and i was not made aware of it, and in the interest of GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE the manager could have exchanged it for the same one seeing that i did purchase two at R30 EACH and when i phoned party city head office i got the same response. There are similar stores like Cardies who provide awesome customer service, its unfortunate I had to go to Party City and get service like this. Its not the money, its about customer service.
