Bicycle damaged and they wont refund

My son bought a bicycle at Makro Ottery and within the first 3 days of having it, it broke. The cog and the gears and jockey immediately started giving problems. We then took the bike (R999) back, hoping they would honor their 14 day money back guarantee but was uncooperative. I phoned again and spoke to John who said that they couldn't exchange or refund me. I was even willing to take another bike. This was all done even before 7 days were up and according to the consumer protection act they are legally bound to replace or repair the goods. I am disgusted with the service I've received and am sitting with R999 worth of scrap metal.
