Makro
Refusal to honour warranty

Shops, Products, Services

I purchased a VERBATIM 8GB Audio USB Flash Drive from Makro Crown Mines on the 18 May 2012. About a week ago, the item malfunctioned. I visited the Makro website to see if the same product is still available. I noted that the exact product had a two year warrantee on the item, article number 251717.
I phoned Customer Services on the 27th June 2013, to enquire about the possibility of a replacement, since I had lost the original receipts. The agent supplied me with the required info, and asked me to go to the store.
The date was well within the warrantee period and I presumed that the warrantee would be honoured. I spoke to Nicholas at the multimedia department who refused to replace the item because in his opinion it was a one year warrantee, and not two years. I picked up the item from the shelves and took it to him to clearly show him that on the packaging it states the two year manufacturers warrantee. Nicholas refused, saying even though it states 24 months it is only a year. I then called customer care again later the same day and spoke to Happy Kumalo, who called Nicholas and apparently sorted out the matter. I raised an official complaint, but after a week no response.
